Transportation
Getting there
Fly from Caracas (Maiquetía CCS) on small twin-engine planes — Chapi Air, LTA (Línea Turística Aereotuy), Albatros Airlines. Flight time ~45 minutes. Daily morning departures, return same day if needed. There are no ferries to Los Roques.
Once on site
Once on Gran Roque (the main inhabited island), all transport is by lancha (boat) — easily arranged at the dock or through your posada. Most posadas include a daily included excursion to one of the surrounding cays (Crasquí, Madrisquí, Francisquí, Cayo de Agua). The island itself has no cars and is walkable end to end in 20 minutes.
Parking
Park your car at Caracas Maiquetía Airport (paid lot, ~$10-15/day) — no cars exist on Los Roques.

DIY vs hiring a tour
Los Roques is one of the easiest DIY destinations in Venezuela. Book a flight directly with one of the airlines, book a posada directly (no tour operator markup needed — try Booking.com, the posadas' own Instagrams, or direct WhatsApp), and you're set. Once at Gran Roque, walk down to the dock each morning to negotiate that day's lancha excursion ($15-30 per person to most cays). The whole experience runs 40-60% cheaper than packaged tours, and you can extend or change plans daily. The exception: if you want serious kitesurfing or scuba diving, book those specifically with on-island operators (Vela Kiteboarding, Sesto Continente Diving). Charter yacht is the other case where booking through an operator makes sense.
